BIOGRAPHY Prof. Benny Wiame, Trumpet

Benny Wiame (Belgium) teaches Trumpet at Conservatorium Maastricht. He also teaches at the Faculty of Music of University College Ghent and at the Luca School of Arts in Leuven. He studied at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven (Belgium) with Léon Petré and atthe Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Jerôme de Brauwer. As a solo trumpet player, Wiame has performed with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a versatile instrumentalist and is comfortable with a wide range of genres. Both symphonic and wind orchestras regularly invite him to perform as a soloist. He has given recitals and masterclasses in South Korea, Japan and Thailand, and has conducted in those countries on numerous occasions.

 

Wiame initiated the brassensemble New Brass Directions and the TROMBA'ch International Brass Festival. He was awarded a First Prize for Trumpet and Solfeggio and a High Degree in Chamber Music. In 2016, he recorded several CDs with works of Belgian composers with pianists Jeroen Riemsdijk and Geert Callaert, called Souvenirs from Liège, Souvenirs from Brussels, Souvenirs from Ghent, and Souvenirs from Leuven.
